'Genie'

Had a great time racing on Genie during the week.

Genie

Initially it was looking like I was only needed for Wednesday and Thursday but, as it turned out, I was there for the whole week.

It could've been that they wanted me for my excellent sailing skills and ability, or my sparkling personality and good humour, or it could've been that they needed someone heavy on the rails and/or to work the mast as the mast-head block had cracked and it was b**o*y hard work raising and lowering the sails? Personally, I thnk it was my personality and humour :-)

Anyway, as the week progressed, we finished 15th in our class on the Wednesday, 13th on the Thursday and 11th on Friday (Saturday was abandoned as there was very little wind). This was compared to finishing 17th twice, 18th and 19th prior to my arrival - maybe it wasn't my personality and humour after all? :-)

Adios!

Good also to catch up with Bridget and Warren, back from Tortola, and to Damian Drury who I saw briefly in the beer tent (surprise that :-) on the Friday night.

All in all, an excellent and a big thanks to Andy, Pete M, Peter G, Hal, John, Rosie, Sue, Tara, Mikey, Hilary, Bryony, Vanessa, Claire and Georgia for helping to make it a great week.

Cowes Week 2006

Received a phone call from Rosie asking me if I wanted to crew as mastman on Genie, a First 40.7, for a couple of days during race week in Cowes.

As much as I enjoy the delights of Great Yarmouth, I'd rather be sailing so I said I'd travel down tomorrow and join the boat Tuesday night.
