How to Publish Your Book on CreateSpace and Kindle: Easy Publishing with Microsoft Word 2007, 2010, and 2013 is the definitive guide to self-publishing your book on those platforms and with that software. Period.
If you’ve come straight to this page, then let me tell you a little about myself (though there’s more here).
The website name and the book’s author gives away who I am, so I’ll cut to the chase. I started using Microsoft Word in 1994 and didn’t get very far in 3 years of using it to write letters and stuff (mainly letters though). That all changed in 1997 when I was hired as a technical writer with a company in Norwich, UK. it was then that my learning speed with Microsoft Word launched in itself like a thunderflash under a dustbin lid (that’s a military ‘thing’).
So much so that in 1999 I went freelance. Between 1999 and 2005, while working in the UK, every single company I contracted at adopted my Word templates and procedures over their own. Everyone.
Fast forward to 2010, we (my wife and I) published our first book. Fast forward again to 2014 and the self-publishing industry is booming.
In 2014, I came up with the idea for 1-Click Book Creation, a Word template that automates creating, formatting, and publishing your book on CreateSpace and Kindle (and other companies as well, but these are Amazon – the biggies). While doing this, I also recorded a full video training course of how to do all of this – this book is the one I video recorded. Step-by-step.
This is the finished video article, so to speak (click here if you want to check out the video training course).
Naturally, it’s available on CreateSpace and Kindle (links at the bottom of the post), and it’s also available in pdf.
How to Publish Your Book on CreateSpace and Kindle Covers What Exactly?
It covers it all.
Well, it details all you need to know to create, format, and publish your book on CS and KDP. As I mentioned, I created this book to cover the entire end-to-end process of what you need to do to successfully publish your book on these platforms.
Unbeknown to many, when you install Microsoft Word it’s ‘default’ setup isn’t for creating books – Microsoft aren’t helping authors here. The book covers the modifications you need to make to your Word settings to make it more amenable to self-publishing.
I then cover setting up your book. Your trim size (the trim size is the final physical book size that your customer will hold in their hand when they buy your book and start to read it), the margins, the bleed (if any), the headers and footers, and all the other elements that you either get right now, or will suffer for later on.
And you will suffer if you don’t get it right.
The book covers section breaks – these are crucial in Word, and you need to use them to separate the front matter of your book (the title page, copyright page, etc.), from the main part of your book. Get these wrong and you’ll be chasing your tail forever.
Did I mentioned it’s fully-illustrated to aid you every step of the way? There are 144 images in the 180-page book. You know it’s not going to be a tedious bind working through the book, as I take you every step of the way.
However, the best way for you to see whether the book (and my style) suits you is to take a look yourself.

Yes, when I wrote this book and created my 1-Click Book Creation application, I recorded the entire process of the book creation, formatting, and self-publishing to CS and KDP. All told it’s 6-hours of watching me every step of the way as I create my book and publish it: setting up Word, creating the book, populating the content, formatting it, setting up running heads, the tables of content, the table of figures, the table of tables, the abbreviations, cross-references, running heads, drop capitals...ALL OF IT!
